DMHS Students of the Month: 2022

DMHS students have been participating in the Student of the Month Program, which focuses on selecting the most outstanding students for each month. Every month, students from each grade are recognized for their hard work and dedication.

“Winners will receive a variety of distinctions including being posted on the Student of the Month bulletin board and featured in a spread in this year’s yearbook!” teacher Amanda Mauder said.

During the cold months of January, February and the start of a welcomed spring for March and April, students worked diligently to keep up with their grades.

January Student of the Month awards were earned by senior Maya Magnuski, junior Gavin Lam, sophomore Krishany A. Corbett, and freshman Samuel Rivas.

It’s a fantastic way to close out senior year, and I’m grateful for my teachers who worked with me to get through.

“When I got the text from the teacher that I was student of the month I was very shocked. First, I was thinking it had to be the good grades I have,” said sophomore Krishany with a playful smile.

Some balanced sports at the same time. Other students balanced large projects, various Advanced Placement assignments, many club affiliations and community service hours.

February Student of the Month awards were achieved by senior Victoria Lebron, junior Aleksander Gaba, sophomore Mario Melara Calderon, and freshman Nyashia Jennings

“Though I thought it was a little odd that I received the news at the end of March, I was grateful that I was recognized,” senior Victoria Lebron said. “I also was grateful because compared to my peers I felt I was not putting in my best effort.”

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic affecting many students’ overall moods and academic performances, students were still motivated to continue doing their best at school.

March Student of the Month awards were secured by senior Jadyn Lewis, junior Shandry Almanzar, sophomore Ray Adrian Guevarra, and freshman Imaya Victoria

It feels good to win, yet I was very surprised. Student of the Month status is a very accomplishing reward, yet I feel like it was very unexpected for me to win.

— Sophomore Ray Guevarra

“It feels good to win, yet I was very surprised. Student of the Month status is a very accomplishing reward, yet I feel like it was very unexpected for me to win,” sophomore Ray Guevarra said. “I am glad though that my work ethic was recognized and my efforts in school!”

And with the advent of spring – buds and blossoms and warmer weather along with AP testing and the end of the third marking period – students kept up their hard work and momentum. Some might say they were even energized by the new season.

April Student of the Month awards were landed by senior Mia Madonna, junior Gabriella Cardona, sophomore Alejandro Caro Velasquez, and freshman Andres Matallana

“It’s a fantastic way to close out senior year, and I’m grateful for my teachers who worked with me to get through all the madness,” senior Mia Madonna said.

These 16 students of the DMHS Raider Nation have the right to feel proud and have shown their spirits of determination.
