Band Performance at Jets Game

On Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, our very own DMHS marching band performed during halftime at a New York Jets game. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was extremely rewarding for our band. They received recognition, practice, and the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people. Their performance was also another way to thank the Jets, as our school’s recent football field renovation would not have been possible without them.

It was very exciting. It’s something I’ve been wanting the band to do for a while,

“It was very exciting. It’s something I’ve been wanting the band to do for a while,” band director Gary Holland shared.

Despite its success, this experience did not always go as planned. Two weeks leading up to the game, the band had to practice on the front lawn of DMHS where they had to endure the cold weather. Nevertheless, their hard work and dedication led to their success at halftime.

“It was nothing short of a dream. I was really hype the whole time,” band member and sophomore Justin Bolanos exclaimed. “While I was playing, I didn’t notice the rain on my face. I even gave a high-five to someone in the stands after the game,” he added.

The marching band’s performance was so successful that they were invited back for a second halftime show, which is a testament to their amazing talents!
