A Night Unlike Any Other

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, approximately 100 DMAE seniors experienced a truly heartfelt celebration of their last high school year at Prom; this was a time of great jouissance for seniors finally had the opportunity to have in-person festivities with pandemic restrictions lifted. Even the rain that accompanied the 7:00 p.m. start did not douse the enchantment that night at the Rockleigh Country Club, in Rockleigh, NJ.

Senior class advisors Mindy Rochman and Grace Frangiosa also were ecstatic to be there after all the uncertainty and touch and go approvals of both the administration and the country club.

But, the night followed the magical course of Prom custom and serendipity. Upon arrival guests met with the photographer who captured the moment forever. Then mocktail hour brought classmates together, some who had not seen each other since being in school a year before. Next, doors to the main venue opened as if by a silent command, and Prom goers took in beautifully decorated garden-theme tables surrounding the dance floor. Then, buzztt scratch boom, the music got everyone energized until the gourmet buffet was open for all.

Soon the rain stopped and the outdoor portion of the venue came alive: fountains spouting streams of lit water, a gazebo at the far end beckoning students to take group photos, walkways inviting couples to stroll.

Towards the end of the night the Prom Kings and Queens were crowned: for Dwight Morrow, Raheem McCoy and Kaylea Powell, for the Academies, Emre Ozmemili and Kiana Ong.

“I was delighted to see everyone dance their hearts out, especially in the rowdy mosh pits!” said  Prom King Emre laughing.

From throwbacks to songs well known by the crowd the dancing continued until midnight when it was time to say impossible goodbyes. Perhaps because of the contrast created by the pandemic, these Senior Prom memories were now indelible.
