Women Empowered Women at LPS Speaker Series

On February 17, 2021, Ms. Cristina Cutrone visited the LPS Speaker Series. Ms. Cutrone teaches AP Government and Politics and European History at Tenafly High School. She is also the Deputy Mayor of Fairlawn.

“Ms. Cristina Cutrone was invited to speak because of the unique application of her interest in law and government,” LPS Program Manager Janice Acebo said. “Ms. Cutrone combined her passions and pursued teaching while also becoming involved in various local government projects and positions,” she added.

Even though Ms. Cutrone loves being a teacher, she has always had an interest in government and politics. From a young age, her parents taught her to be self-sufficient and to help those around her, so she was always passionate about public service.

I learned that she is very passionate about teaching! She is also a great leader and has great communication skills.

“What I learned from today’s speaker series was a lot about Ms. Cutrone’s work,” freshman Evelyn Tamayo reflected. “I learned that she is very passionate about teaching! She is also a great leader and has great communication skills,” she added.

Furthermore, Ms. Cutrone is dedicated to helping and supporting women who want to get more involved in the political process. She believes now is the time to truly empower women across this county, state, and country.

“As the Deputy Mayor of Fairlawn, or ‘Vice Mayor’ as Ms. Cutrone joked, she was able to share valuable insight regarding the inner workings of local government,” Ms. Acebo said. “Her integral role in organizing civically-minded women who seek to strengthen each other and ensure that women are not only represented in government, but also active representatives in the process, is clear,” Ms. Acebo added.

This monthly speaker series is designed for DMAE students to connect to people who have successfully dedicated their lives to law and government in different ways. All students are encouraged to attend the meetings!
