Fourth and Goal, ball on the 10 yard line. A touchdown will keep the game going. The crowd, the sideline, coaches, players are all screaming, for this could be the last play of the season. The Raiders scramble and score!

The DMAE football team went through a rough 2015 season but ended positively. They entered the season with high expectations after blowing by many teams such as Garfield, North Arlington, and Wallington during the preseason. After starting 1-0 with a win over Cliffside Park to open the season, however, the Raiders  failed to maintain their momentum. They did not another win until their overtime thriller against Demarest in a consolation game.

“It felt great to end off the season on high note. We still have a lot of work to do to prepare for the next season but I see good things for the future of our program,” junior Cornerback Kieran Hillary said.

The game was played on November 12, 2015. Demarest maintained the tempo for the majority of the game leading at one point by 21 points in the 4th quarter, but that did not stop the Raiders. They played hard and showed heart that brought them back to eventually tie the game and send it into overtime.

“I always believed in them. Even when everyone else counted us out or said the game was already over I still knew we could win,” said a parent who was at the game cheering the Raiders on.

The Demarest Norsemen struck first and scored a quick touchdown in the overtime. The Raiders still had one last chance and on 4th down they converted and scored the touchdown that put them in good position to send this game into another overtime period. The extra point was set up but it ended up being a fake. The Raiders won 43-44 with the game winning two-point conversion that sent the crowd rushing onto the field.

“It was awesome seeing them win their last game of the season in such a dramatic fashion that they did it in,” avid fan junior Lisandro Ulerio remarked. “When we saw the two-point conversion was good we all ran onto the field from the stands to celebrate with friends on the football team. In all, it was a great day to be a Raider,” added Lisandro who was filled with joy for the DMAE football team’s victory.

There was a celebration after the game for fans and the team. The Marching Band gave their football team a standing ovation for what could be one of the greatest comebacks in Dwight Morrow history.
