NHS Hosts College Application Info Session

On April 16, 2021, the National Honors Society (NHS)  hosted a presentation on the College Application Process for junior and sophomore students. The two-hour event was held virtually on Zoom. NHS President Jeffrey Hong gave a formal welcome, introduction and agenda. His opening was followed by students going into breakout rooms based on career pathways.

In the Medical Pathways breakout room, seniors Dimple Kangriwala and Chris Lee shared pre-med curriculum and the application process as future medical students. Likewise, in the Law Pathways breakout room, senior Rachel Park shared her application process and what journey she took in high school. Other seniors shared how they shaped their essays and extracurricular activities to take their college applications to the next level.

For students who weren’t able to attend the presentation, recordings were posted on the NHS Instagram account.

“I gained a new perspective on the college application process and also learned how different students approached the process through different strategies,” one sophomore noted.

One senior emphasized that ultimately what you  do with your life is more important than the school you attend.

Everything is not just about academics and grades. Although they do have an impact on life, it’s mostly the experience you gain at the college or university that impacts how you use that education.

“Everything is not just about academics and grades,” senior Dimple Kangriwala said. “Although they do have an impact on life, it’s mostly the experience you gain at the college or university that impacts how you use that education.”

The NHS College Presentation was helpful to underclassmen because it gave them real data on their upcoming college quest and as a result, reduced feelings of stress. Seniors were straightforward and gave clear information about the college admissions process. Attendees gained relevant knowledge and new perspectives.

“It just makes sense to spend the next four years of your life somewhere where you will  get a great education and enjoy yourself,” Dimple said.
