A Record Number Will Sing

14 Students Make Bergen County Choir

From events like Englewood Idol performed at bergenPAC to the school musicals and concerts, music is a consistent presence on the DMAE campus. Students pride themselves in their musical prowess and, on Oct. 16, 2014, were given a chance to yet again exhibit their talents through auditions for the Bergen County Choir (BCC) held at Cresskill High School.

Led by music teacher Sandra Meltzer, a record number of students were accepted displaying why music continues to be a driving force on campus.

“I’m really proud that we’ll have so many students representing our school in this prestigious group,” Ms. Meltzer said.

A total of 14 students were admitted into the choir, setting a record in the process. Of those 14, 10 were from the junior class: Seung Chul Lee, Demetrius Lara, Niaree Thomas, Yea In Kim, Janice Wang, Annabelle Sowah, Rebekah

There were no surprises; I think my students are great.

Han, Daniel Pak, Brian Kim, and Guhan Thuran. Seniors Daniel Park and Andy Kim, sophomore Eric Lee, and freshman Jeremy Pak were also accepted.

“Being that this was my first time being accepted into this program, I’m really excited and happy to be representing our school in this manner,” Brian said. “I think the music at DMAE is really underrated, and it’s good to see so many people get into BCC this year.”

Despite the vast number of students who were accepted, Ms. Meltzer was not shocked.

“There were no surprises; I think my students are great,” Ms. Meltzer explained. “I was also happy that some students who never had this experience before were accepted.”

The students admitted into BCC are expected to have three rehearsals throughout the duration of their stints. Once their practices conclude, they, along with students from all around Bergen County, are to hold a performance on Jan. 19, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Paramus High School.
