The Annual Senior Awards Ceremony was held on June 14, 2016, as means to honor and celebrate the many accomplishments of the class of 2016.

“It feels great to be acknowledged for all the efforts I’ve done after all the years,” senior Nasr Kamar said. “You’d think that all the little things you do as a person goes unnoticed by all the people you impact but somewhere in some small corner of the school, someone is writing it all down,”  he added half jokingly.

“Purely based off of all the hard work and effort our class has just put into our work along with all the acceptances from some of the top colleges gives me just the slightest inkling that we’re going very far in life.”

The ceremony was organized by guidance counselor Jamayla Scott and featured introductions from both Principal Peter Elbert and Superintendent Robert Kravitz. Over 80 seniors were awarded in eight award categories, which included academic awards, scholarship awards, and honorary awards. The winners of the John Grieco Scholarship Award were also announced at the ceremony. Sophomore Ruchita Choksey, the female Academies@Englewood sophomore scholarship winner, described feeling nervous but happy when she was awarded her scholarship plaque.

The ceremony  proved to also be quite emotional and reminiscent as it brought back memories of all the achievements the seniors have accomplished in their high school career.

“It makes you realize how much you’ve done,” Nasr explained. “Four years is a lot to remember all the things you’ve done. I have a really bad memory, so it was a perfect event.”

The night ended with feelings of sadness and excitement as the seniors prepare to enter their next chapter in life.

“Purely based off of all the hard work and effort our class has just put into our work along with all the acceptances from some of the top colleges gives me just the slightest inkling that we’re going very far in life,” concluded Nasr thoughtfully.
